Travel Trip Planner API in action

by Neil MacLean

Still on the subject of Yahoo! the travel team just released the Travel Trip Planner API. What’s that you ask?

With the Yahoo! Travel Trip Plan APIs you can search for trip plans by Yahoo! ID or by search query, or retrieve a specific trip plan by ID. The Yahoo! Travel Trip Plan APIs have been designed to operate just like the Yahoo! Search APIs, so if you’ve already written code for Yahoo! Search you can start using Travel almost immediately with only minor modifications. And just like Yahoo! Search, the Yahoo! Travel APIs support both XML and JSON output.

Now, to be honest I have never written code for Yahoo! Search and I can’t imagine I will suddenly learn any coding skills applicable to their Travel Planner API either (though you never know).

Mark Johnson knows more about these things and, in his own words, “went poking around” the API and then wondered who is likely to use it.

Step forward Dan Theurer who put it through its paces by writing a quick app. Enter a destination and it finds all sorts of relevant info and reviews created within Travel Trip Planner.

This certainly offers a quick route to useful user-generated content. And from a travel pr perspective, here is another tool to help you keep an eye on your client’s online reputation.
