New blogging audience statistics

by Neil MacLean on August 10, 2005

The first major marketing study of the blogging audience has been released by comScore Networks and, though very US-centric it makes fascinating reading. Among the findings comes the news that fifty million U.S. internet users, or about 30% of the U.S. internet population, visited blog sites in the first quarter of 2005.

Another gem suggests that blog readers are likely to live in significantly wealthier households than other web users. They are younger, and are more likely to have high-speed access.

High speed access lies at the heart of social media’s future.  Figures have suggested more UK households now access the internet through broadband than dial-up. Expect to see an increase this year on total internet consumption, the amount of time people interact with fellow users online and the time they spend researching products and services.
