Your friendly Trip Advisor. That's me

by Neil MacLean on October 7, 2006

Thanks to everybody who made my APRO talk such a great experience – for me anyway. I loved the way so many people took copious notes. Or maybe they were just doodling.
As usual the TripAdvisor question popped up: as in “what do we do about TripAdvisor?” I’d love a pound for every time I get asked that one.
It occurred to me as I served up a slide complete with TripAdvisor review of the Courthouse Hotel Kempinski – venue for our seminar and my resting place the previous night – I might as well submit my own mini review and get something off my chest.
I mean, pass on some useful advice to fellow travellers.
You see, I was pretty hacked off with the Courthouse. There was nothing wrong with the hotel itself. Very comfortable and a great central location. No, I was unhappy they had quoted a rate without tax. That’s pretty unusual in the UK. Suddenly my already expensive £170 bed had become a £200 hole in my wallet. And I wasn’t pleased.
Also, if I am paying £200 a night for a hotel, I want hot water coming out of my shower in the morning or else some sort of rebate.
And that’s exactly what I told TripAdvisor.
