Tip or TripAdvisor? Tour guides soliciting reviews

At the end of his tour, he asked us all to provide the tour with an honest “hopefully positive” review on TripAdvisor.com, or any other travel forums we happened to be visiting.

Edelman Digital – Authenticities.

I wonder which the tour operators would prefer: five stars in TripAdvisor or a glowing review in a well-read blog.

Hi Neil, to be honest, I think the tour operators would prefer both. However, the consumer generated contents are more based on the travel experience. Usually, either the tour is so great that the traveler is more than happy to tell others, or it’s too terrible that other travelers shall be noticed against it.

While travel blogs will often be more enjoyable to read, and some have a dedicated readership, the reader’s interest will only last as long as the content is valid. Tripadvisor is a resource that has a reputation far stronger than any blog i know of, and it has information on so many tourism destinations, and tourism operations, it’ll be hard to knock it off it’s perch.

That said I don’t personally like Tripadvisor a great deal its overly commercial and restrictive and a heartfelt travel blog post on your tourism client potentially generates a nice spike in web traffic and hopefully some genuine warm fuzzies which you can share with your client.
