Google Video adds YouTube content to its search results
January 25, 2007
Thanks to the ease of publishing and low cost of equipment, creating online video has become an increasingly viable option for travel marketing departments, but just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
For a start, I would advise against posting anything about your travel business unless the content ticks at least one of these two boxes: a) interesting, b) useful. If it just puff about the new food and beverage manager, forget it - unless he or she is remarkably photogenic or can do tricks with the buffet cart.
Until now, marketers wondered whether to submitted their videos to the world via Google video or YouTube. Or did you just go both routes and cover the bases?
Fret no more. According to Google Blogoscoped, YouTube videos are now appearing in Google search results.
If you search Google Video for cars, for example, the first result will take you to YouTube, and the second will play a video from Google Video. This also means that YouTube is now quasi-integrated onto the Google homepage (because Google.com has a “Video” link since August 2006), which may give it another substantial boost.

I searched Google today for Noordhoek Beach and was surprised to see someone’s Flickr profile appear in results. Page 2 but still pretty high up.
Made me wonder why not just travel companies and holiday rental owners, hotels and B&Bs aren’t thinking of this. I can see this being one area of social media, that if done right, could bring rewards.
Of course, they won’t do it right though, will they?
