Testing domain mapping with Blogger

January 5, 2007 by Neil Maclean

A comment on Thomas McMahon’s blog mentioned that Blogger is letting users map their blog to their own domain. Now that we have a new and much improved version of Blogger, allowing advanced template tweaking and a lot of improved functionality, this could provide the cheapest way to publish a professional-looking business blog.
I couldn’t resist trying this with a spare .com domain (I have a few lying around in a dusty cupboard). And it worked very well. You are warned that it might take up to 48 hours for the DNS changes to percolate through. It seemed to take about that many seconds. Here’s the (test) result.

Looks like a success, except that the comments all still go back to Blogger. I guess that’s their way of keeping branding. ;)

    Thanks Thomas. That’s really interesting.
I didn’t think of checking the comments.
That kind of makes the hard work of disguising the obvious Blogger elements of the blog redundant!
