Catching up is hard to do
July 4, 2006
The two worst things about coming home from holiday? 1) You are home; that was the holiday. 2) Your feedreader, aggregator, whatever we are calling these things this week, has four million unread entries in it and you need to take another couple of weeks off just to catch up.
I find I am getting more cavalier about unsubscribing to blogs. I mean I have my favourites; I remain loyal to Scoble and some of the early PR pioneers. But these days I have a semi-strict rule that I must bin an old subscription before I let a new one in. And as new blogs are always catching my eye, Blogines is doing a fair impersonation of a revolving door.
It spun even faster the other day as I found myself working through the backlog. I worked out which blogs I really needed and which were most likely to bring me up to speed with developments. The rest lost their place in my affections.
I also found myself skimming more of the aggregated sites, buffet style, and I quite like that way of eating. For example, apart from Digg, there was New PR for pr, the Marketing Profs blog and Marktd, TailRank, BlogNoggle and Pixel Groovy. All time savers - until you actually start following a link and find another three hours has gone and you still haven’t caught up with your email.
