Blogging with Yahoo! and Movable Type

In a surprise move, Yahoo! announced on Monday that it would offer Six Apart’s Movable Type blogging software as part of its small business website offering (many people thought Yahoo! would just go ahead and buy Six Apart one day).
And lo, it was as good as its word with a Movable option available almost from the moment the release hit the wires.
Curious to know how the new Yahoo! hosted Movable Type would compare with Six Apart’s own hosted TypePad, I decided to put it to the test and signed up, with a three month introductory offer of $8.96 a month and no set up fee.
I calculate I can get someone started on a TypePad blog in about 20 minutes to half an hour. My new Movable blog took a few minutes longer - but that included finding and registering a new domain. Pretty impressive.
Both of these timings involve vanilla blogs with in house templates, of course.
Over the next few days - maybe weeks if Christmas has its way - I shall continue to play with the Yahoo! offering and report back on progress. There’s not much to see yet but my shiny new Yahoovable blog is here.
